Why "Prevention Is Better Than Cure"?

Imagine a young person who is 25 years old. According to a particular horoscope interpretation, an astrologer may identify a difficult planetary period expected much later in life — perhaps when that individual is around 50, 55 or 60. Should the person wait until that period arrives and then seek help?

The philosophy behind PIBTC is simple: if a traditional system gives a person an opportunity to become aware of a potentially difficult period in advance, why should that information be ignored? A person cannot necessarily prevent every difficulty of life. But advance awareness may encourage better preparation, greater caution, spiritual discipline and, for believers, appropriate parihara.

This does not mean that every predicted difficulty will necessarily occur exactly as described. Human life is influenced by countless factors - personal decisions, environment, health, education, relationships, social circumstances and unforeseen events. Astrology should therefore never be presented as an absolute guarantee of either suffering or salvation.

The traditional concept of Karma provides another dimension. According to Hindu philosophical traditions, one's present life is connected with actions and consequences extending beyond the immediately visible circumstances of life. Horoscope interpretation is traditionally regarded by believers as one possible way of understanding the timing or expression of such karmic influences.

The important word is "preparedness". If a person believes that a particular period may be challenging, that belief can encourage him or her to live more carefully, responsibly and spiritually. Instead of waiting until a crisis develops, the person may take constructive precautions beforehand.

That is the philosophy expressed by the name:

PIBTC - PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.

Protect Yourself From Exploitation

One of the principal objectives of PIBTC.ORG is to protect ordinary people from misguidance, unnecessary expenditure and commercial exploitation in the name of astrology. There are many sincere and knowledgeable astrologers. There are also persons who may take advantage of the fears and anxieties of vulnerable people. The public must learn to distinguish between the two.

A person seeking astrological guidance should be cautious if an astrologer immediately announces a serious disaster, demands a large payment for an urgent remedy, insists that only he or she can perform the remedy, or repeatedly creates new fears after each consultation. Another warning sign is the practice of prescribing increasingly expensive rituals without adequately explaining the traditional basis or purpose. Spiritual faith should not be measured by the amount of money spent.

PIBTC.ORG should encourage visitors to ask simple questions:

  • What exactly is the dosha?
  • How was it identified?
  • What is the traditional basis for the interpretation?
  • What period is being referred to?
  • What remedy is being recommended?
  • Why is that remedy considered appropriate?
  • Is there a simpler traditional alternative?
  • What will the complete cost be?

A responsible practitioner should be able to answer such questions calmly and transparently. Most importantly, no person should abandon medical treatment, legal advice, financial advice or other professional assistance merely because of an astrological prediction. Spiritual practices and practical action can coexist. One should never be substituted irresponsibly for the other.

The message of PIBTC.ORG is therefore not:

"Believe everything an astrologer tells you."
It is:
"Investigate. Understand. Question. Take responsible guidance. Then decide."

For Believers, Sceptics And Everyone In Between

What should a person who does not believe in astrology do when visiting PIBTC.ORG?

We do not ask such a person to surrender his or her reasoning.

A sceptic is entitled to question every astrological principle. Scientific investigation and rational inquiry are valuable. Astrology should not demand belief by intimidation, and PIBTC.ORG should never attempt to manufacture belief through fear.

At the same time, not believing in something and understanding it are two different things.

A person may study astrology as one studies history, philosophy, religion, culture or traditional medicine — with an open but questioning mind. One may examine its concepts, understand its terminology and learn why generations of people have placed faith in it without necessarily accepting every claim.

For those who believe, PIBTC.ORG can provide a framework for preventive awareness and responsible traditional guidance.

For those who are uncertain, it can provide an opportunity to learn before forming an opinion.

For those who do not believe, it can still demonstrate that genuine spiritual guidance need not be based upon fear, superstition or financial exploitation.

THE PIBTC PRINCIPLE

  • Do not wait for a problem to become a crisis.
  • Do not allow fear to control your decisions.
  • Do not allow commercial interests to exploit your faith.
  • Do not accept a prediction merely because it is frightening.
  • Do not reject a traditional system merely because you have not studied it.

Learn. Examine. Question. Prepare.

Life inevitably contains difficulties. No human being can completely escape uncertainty, disappointment, illness, loss or suffering. The traditional philosophy behind parihara is therefore not necessarily that every difficulty can be magically removed.

Rather, it may be understood as an attempt to prepare the individual spiritually and psychologically to face difficult periods with greater awareness, faith, discipline and courage.

If a person believes that a difficult period may arise at the age of 55, why not begin responsible preparation at 25?

If a traditional remedy can be undertaken peacefully and within one's means, why wait until fear becomes overwhelming?

If knowledge can encourage caution, why reject knowledge without examining it?

That is the spirit of PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
